Betty Mitchell, 75, of Ridgeland, SC passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at her residence. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.

Betty Battiste Mitchell was born in Ridgeland, SC, to Willie and Hilda Battiste September 5, 1947.She received her education at Ridgeland, Jasper County High School. She became a member of New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James White and then Rev. Dave Mitchell, she also attended Greater Evangelistic Deliverance Church under leadership of Pastor Mary Frazier. Betty worked as a Housekeeper Supervisor in Sea Pines, and also at the Jasper County Detention Center.
On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, Betty was called from Labor to Reward. She was preceded in death by her parents; Willie and Hilda Battiste, a daughter Betty Ann Mitchell, two brothers; Tyrone Battiste, and Willie Battiste, Jr., two sister Beatrice Emerson and Gloria Toomer.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a devoted husband George Scangtling of Beaufort, SC, six daughters; Rita Mitchell, Kinnette Mitchell (Eugene Wiley) of Hampton, SC, Gerri Ann Manigo (Donald) of Walterboro, SC, Tonya Williams (Charles) of Early Branch, SC, Laura Mitchell, and Belinda White (Monte) of Beaufort, SC, one son George Scangtling, Jr., foster daughters; Darlene Knox, Reyna Isaura, Treniecia Green Simmons, and Evaline Hamilton, foster sons; Albert Mitchell, Henry Lee Mitchell and Tommy Lee Mitchell one brother Henry Battiste(Siera), two sisters; Sheila Battiste, and Marion Smalls, one god sister Inett Cannick, one god son Rodeny Wright, nephew Rodeny Battiste(Pamela Battiste), special friend and cousin Virginia Battiste Lewis, Joyce Johnson, Carlene Beaton, and Parlene Ferguson, twenty grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, one spiritual daughter Alvonia Shepherd, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
