Carletha Stephens

Miss Carletha Stephens, 68, of Cleveland Street, in Walterboro, SC, sister of Vonda and Gary Evans,  passed away at her residence, on Saturday, September 19, 2020.  The family will receive family and friends Sunday, September 27, 2020, from 5-6 pm at Allen Funeral Home(1905 Hampton Street), Walterboro. The Private Funeral Service is Monday, September 28, 2020, at 1 PM at Saints Center Ministry.  Allen Funeral Home in Walterboro, SC is in charge.

Carletha Stephens was born on October 28, 1951, in Walterboro, SC, and departed this life on September 20, 2020.  She was the daughter of Bertha Stephens Evans (deceased) and husband Willis Evans Sr (deceased) and Carl Stephens, Sanford, Florida. Carletha attended grade school in Colleton County and graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School, in New York City, New York.  

She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age under the leadership of Pastor Paul Taylor at the St. James Holiness.  She later moved to New York and attended the St. Albans Deliverance Center under the leadership of Bishop Matthew Johnson.  When her family returned to SC, she renewed her membership at the St. James Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Lewis N. Taylor. She was also a faithful member of Saints Center Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Phillip Taylor.    

Carletha operated a childcare center in her home for many years.  She was an instrumental part of each child’s life and provided love, guidance, and discipline. Many of the children who were in her care remained in contact with her down through the years and have become a part of her extended family.  

She loved her family and friends and showed it by cooking for them. 

She would bake cakes and pies for her cousins, siblings, church members, and neighbors.   When she cooked for the holiday’s family and friends were invited to get a plate.  She loved doing family things and helping family whenever she could.

Carletha is survived by her father Carl Stephens (Sanford, FL), siblings Marlene Askew, (New York), Lorriene Townsel (Alphonso)(Miami, Florida), Chloe Coney (Ernest Sr)(Tampa, Florida) Ruby Everette (New York), Wallace Gary Evans (Kasatra) (Lexington, SC), Vonda Evans (N. Charleston, SC), Ruthie Lee, (Orlando, FL) Angela Butts (Tony) ( Orlando, Florida), Stephone Stephens ( Sanford, Florida), Latrissa (Teresa) Fuentes (Randy), Kattie Stephens, Carlita Jefferson (Jeffery) Essex Stephens (Heather) all of Oklahoma City, OK, sister-in-law Geraldine Evans (Punta Garda, Fl)

She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins
