Charles Mulligan Obituary

Charles Mulligan, 85, a native of Dale, SC passed away Sunday, June 13th, 2021. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home of Ridgeland. We welcome to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute.

 

Charles Mulligan was born on October 1, 1935, in Beaufort, SC to the late Julius Mulligan and Lula Washington-Mulligan.He received his formal education in the Beaufort County Public School System.
As a young man Charles held several jobs one of which he worked construction at Coastal Cabinet Company in Beaufort, SC. Charles left Dale, SC at the age of 18 and traveled to New York City where he lived on Sterling Place in Brooklyn, New York for several years. He later moved to Manhattan, Harlem, NY where he met and fell in love with his wife and partner of 48 years, Patricia Ann Lemons- Mulligan affectionately known as “Patti”. The two of them were married on October 7, 1978. He was employed at Star Corrigated in Maspeth, NY until he retired at the age of 63. Charles touched the lives of many people with his generosity and sense of humor. He had a deep love for his family and his southern roots. He would frequently travel from New York to Dale, SC to maintain the bond he shared with his sibling, family, and friends. He was hilariously funny, a great storyteller, meticulous about his appearance and grooming, he always sported a mean hat, and didn’t hesitate when it came to showing off his famous dance moves. Charles was a hardworking man, loving father and husband.
Charles passed away peacefully in hospice at his home on Sunday, June 13, 2021 where his wife and family members nurtured and cared for him. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Lyons, his six brothers; Harold Mulligan, Willie Mulligan, Edwin Mulligan, Pharis Mulligan, Julius Mulligan, Earl Mulligan and his two sisters Eleanor Mulligan White and Arizona Mulligan Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving devoted wife Patricia Ann Lemons Mulligan “Patti”, his five sons: Robert Stewart(Harriet), Terry Simmons (Marie), Darryl Mulligan, Kevin Mulligan, and James Waters “Bae”, two daughters: Tawana Brunson-Carter (Kenneth), LaChanda Green and his granddaughter Kishana Brunson Carr (DaVon) that he raised as his daughter; eleven grand kids, twenty-one great grans, 2 great great grand kids. One brother; Peter Mulligan, two sisters: Alma Mae Mulligan-Knighton and Lorraine Mulligan
Simmons, one sister-in-law; Glory Jean Lemons (Touré) son; and a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
