Gregory O’Neil Rivers, Sr., affectionately known as Greg, was born January 13, 1967 in Rochester, NY to Ovester Rivers and Herman Mike. Greg was raised in Ridgeland, SC under
the love and care of Georgia and Nathaniel Orr, where he attended Ridgeland schools. Greg graduated from Ridgeland High School, home of the Trojans, in 1985. Upon graduation,
Greg joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country for over 11 years in the Infantry Division. Following his service in the Marine Corps, Greg began his law enforcement
career with the Hardeeville Police Department as a Community Oriented Police (COP) and then went on to serve with the Jasper County Sheriff ’s Office as a Deputy assigned to the
Patrol Division. Greg went on to work internationally as the Human Rights Monitor and Riot Commander in Kosovo intermittently from 2003 to 2012. Greg returned to Jasper County Sheriff ’s Office in 2015earning the rank as Sergeant, leading to a position being deputized as a member of the U.S. MarshalSoutheast Fugitive Task Force. In 2020, Greg was promoted to a Detective for the Jasper County Sheriff ’s Office
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to his beautiful wife Felicia on February 14, 1992, with over 30 years of love. Greg was a member of Padgett Branch Baptist Church in Gillisonville, SC. Greg’s favorite pastimes included fishing, playing with his energetic dog Blitz, and listening to various music genres, with hopes of making it big as a “DJ”. He was a member of the Power Pack Martial Arts Class alongside his kids.
He also enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers, and Clemson Tigers. He enjoyed spending time on the road with his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Greg was a devoted husband, father, son, and proud grandfather. In the past year, Greg was enthralled in the life of being a new grandfather. He found solitude in spending time with his family. From the devil-ish childhood stories shared by his sisters and cousins to his adventures with his nieces Regina, Kyctrell, and Tiffany, Greg enjoyed having a good laugh and being the jokester.
Greg had the heart of a lion, was strong and courageous. He was strong-minded and had a heart of gold. Telling colorful stories to bring joy and laughter to those around him was always one of his favorite things to do. To his family, Greg was a natural comedian. His smile and contagious laughter could brighten a room. If you started a conversation with him, you knew that it would not be a quick one.
On the afternoon of March 13, 2022, Greg was called Home. He was predeceased by his fathers, Herman Mike and Nathaniel Orr. Greg is survived by his wife, Felicia Rivers; his sons Gregory Rivers, Jr. (Shadon), Xavier Rivers, and Tyrell Rivers; his daughter “baby girl” Tiana Rivers; his granddaughter, Gia Rivers; his mothers, Ovester Rivers Mitchell (Hezekiah) and Georgia Orr; his step-mother Betty Mike; his sisters Donetta Orr Hamilton (Martin), Nicole Green, Shequeita Orr Frazier (Rashad) ; his brothers Herman Mike Jr. and David Mike; his mother-in-law, Marcella Brown and father-in-law, Herman Orr, Jr. (Angela) ; his sisters-in-law Tanya Brown, Tara Brown, and Dawn Boyd (Mark); his brothers-in-law Terrance Orr (Sandra) and Andre
