Edna Mae Pinckney-Jenkins, 78, the daughter of the late David and Charlotte S. Pinckney, was born on October 30, 1942 in Jasper County, South Carolina.
She was educated in the public school system of Jasper County. Upon graduation, Edna moved to New York where she met and married her husband, Luther Jenkins, Sr. in 1965. The family returned to Gillisonville, South Carolina in 1975. She received her nursing certificate from the South Carolina Department of Education and a certificate of completion for Home Economics from the Jasper Vocational Training Center. She worked at Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, SC and Days Inn of Ridgeland, SC. She first joined Second African Baptist Church in Coosawhatchie, SC and later moved her membership to Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church in Gillisonville, SC. While at Mt. Calvary, Edna served as the secretary for more than 40 years. She sang in the choir, assisted the ushers with the door, and was the director of the dining room operations for 10 years. Edna enjoyed fishing in her spare time. It brought her great joy that she shared with her daughters and sisters in law.
Edna Mae Pinckney-Jenkins departed this life on Friday, January 29, 2021, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband: Luther Jenkins, Sr.; her parents: David and Charlotte S. Pinckney; four siblings: Lorraine P. Summerville, Robert L. Pinckney, David Pinckney, Jr. and Julie P. Youmans; and one granddaughter: Shantay Jenkins.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Dr. Sharon Pinckney-Love, Cheryl (Rex Wendell) Pinckney-Smith of Jonesboro, GA, Winifred Y. Pinckney of Hilton Head, SC, Patricia E. Jenkins of Gillisonville, SC, Luther (Michelle) Jenkins, Jr., of Charleston, SC, and Alfonso (Elaina) Pinckney of Hilton Head, SC; one sister: Ruthie Ann P. Benson of Bronx, New York; three brothers: James Pinckney, Michael Pinckney both of Point South, SC and Daniel Pinckney of McDonough, GA; three sisters in law: Pastor Lorraine Wiggins, Gloria (Bobby) Baker of Gillisonville, SC and Helen Jenkins of Bronx, NY; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; to include a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
