Our beloved Ernest Thomas Peebles was called by God to his eternal resting place on June 14, 2023. Ernest was born to Bennie Peebles & Rozzie Ector-Lee on April 9, 1948, in New Rochelle, New York he was the eldest of one brother Ronald Peebles. Tragically, Ernest lost his mom at the age of 9, but as we all know God takes care of his children. Ernest was blessed with an Angel to later be raised by his aunt and adopted mom Viola “Annie” Davis. Ernest began his professional career as a master electrician in 1978 with New York Con Edison Company. While by profession Ernest was an electrician, his hands were blessed by God with a host of talents. He was a carpenter, landscaper, D.J., organizer, and mechanic.
In 1981, Ernest met and later married the beat of his heart and love of his life, Arizona Peebles. The love that Ernest possessed for Arizona was a special undying love. Ernest loved to have Ari close to him and wasn’t ashamed of tagging along with her and her sisters. He was their chauffeur, and comedian. Ernest knew if he was traveling with the Mulligan sister’s his dancing shoes were a must bring. One by one Marie, Verge, Helen, Mary, Charlene, Della Mae, Linda, and let’s not forget about Margie. Ernest knew that dancing with all the girls was part of the travel deal. Ernest loved Wallace & Kenneth as well because they embraced him as a brother. Ernest truly loved the Mulligan’s and cherished his extended family as his own.
Those that knew Ernest knew that he loved everything outdoors, fishing, bike riding, physical fitness, and racquet ball to name a few. Most of all, Ernest loved to travel. Ernest never let his discomfort with flying deter him from traveling. He was a road worrier. Ernest and Arizona would pack their bags and hit the road from New York to Florida, New Orleans, South Carolina, and California. Yes, California!
In 2005 Ernest, retired from Con Edison and relocated with his family to Beaufort South Carolina.
Ernest surrendered his life to God many years ago and was a Trustee and dedicated member of Mount Pisgah A.M.E Church. While at Mount Pisgah, he did what he loved….serving those in need. Whether if he was working as a parking director, serving on the usher Board, or manicuring the church lawn, no task was too big for Ernest. His passion was merely to share the love of God and to edify the body of Christ.
Ernest loved life and only ushered in positive vibes. Wherever drama was present, he went the opposite direction; However, he was always open for a little John Lewis “Good Trouble” that is. Ernest took the privilege of voting immensely serious. He was a dedicated volunteer with voting initiatives such as Act Blue, Concerned Black Clergy, and other organizations on a campaign to get those young and old to let their voices be heard at the polls.
Football was Ernest favorite sport. Ernest bleed Cowboy blue. His support of the Cowboys organization was like no other fan. Ernest would travel to Dallas each pre-season to watch his team prepare for the season. Those that knew him knew that the Cowboys winning was like winning the lotto for Ernest, but if they lost, let’s just say the house was quiet.
Ernest loved to dance, and that same passion was past down to his daughter and granddaughter alike. When he hit the dance floor, we all knew what to expect and what we would say “Good knee’s, good knee’s”.
While a mother play’s a pivotal role in the rearing of her children, a dad’s roll can sometime go unnoticed. There are several values that all of Ernest children can agree on that were instilled regarding his legacy. They are, the importance of family, being a person of good charter, posing a strong work ethic, and the obligation of being a loving husband to your wife.
Ernest was predeceased by Bennie Peebles, Rozzie Ector-Lee, and Viola Davis . He is survived by his wife Arizona Peebles. His six children, Denah, Shaunta, Donnell, Clifford, Ernest (wife Malisha) & Shakeisha. He was the proud grandfather of fourteen, and Great grandfather of seven a God-father of one.
