Mother Evalena Knowles was born on November 6, 1939, in Beaufort, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Luther Gibbs and the late Ethel Frazier Gibbs Hamilton. Evalena received her formal education through the Beaufort County Schools System.

After high school, Evalena moved to Stamford, CT where she worked as a Pharmacist Assistant. She later moved back home to South Carolina where she worked many years as a housekeeper on Hilton Head, South Carolina.

After she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior, she became a faithful member of Grayshill Full Gospel Deliverance Church under the leadership and tutelage of the late Pastor Christina Bing and Pastor Norman Jenkins. She served on the usher board for many years and later became a faithful mother of the church until her health failed. She loved reading Christian books and had binders of bible study lessons. Mother Evalena loved to dance, shout, and cut a step before the Lord!! She didn’t miss a Wednesday night or Sunday morning service. She loved God, loved her church, and loved her Pastor!

She was a master puzzle solver. She could put a 1000 piece puzzle together in a short period of time. She also loved to play scrabble and beat all of us mercilessly. She always had a sharp mind, a sharp tongue, and loved A good laugh. She loved her family and later she would pick up her grandchild or take him from his Mom and caressed him and held him tight, against his will, as long as she could.

Mother Evalena answered the master’s call from labor to reward as she transitioned from earth to glory and entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 11, 2020. Mother Evalena was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lillie Mae Smalls.
