George Brown Obituary

Mr. George Brown,81, of Estill, SC passed away at his residence on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home of Ridgeland. A private funeral service is being planned by the family.

He was born on March 9, 1939, to the late Mother Rose Ella Fields Brown and George W Brown, Sr. He was the second of 14 children. He was taught hard and it never cease in his life as he grew older.

                Brother Brown joined Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church at a very young age. “Jr as he is compassionately called by those who truly knew him sung in a gospel group called “The New Four Gospel Singers.” They recorded one song under the leadership of Deacon Frankie Gadson of Garnett, SC. Upon confessing Jesus Christ as his Savior, he joined St. Mary Holiness Church in Luray, SC under Elder Mary Lee McGraw. After the passing of Elder Mary Lee McGraw, the beautiful Elder Thelma Gillison became pastor of St. Mary Holiness.

                Jr was educated in Hampton County School system. As he grew older, he was a mechanic for Rivers Chevrolet in Estill some 60 years ago. After the closing of Rivers Chevrolet, he went into logging where he retired. He as a machine operator still worked as a mechanic when needed.

                He loved his children. He had love for God and a passion for helping others. Often times he would put the needs of others before his own. He had one special nephew Stephone Brown that he considered a son, who credited him for playing a vital role for him becoming the man that he is today.   

                Other than his parents, he preceded in death by his wife Maggie Johnson Brown, one son; Maurice Brown, three brothers; John L. Fields, Sr., Anderson Brown Sr., and Woodrow Brown, three sisters; Rosa Lee Maxwell, Ellen Johnson and Anna Lee Brown.

                He leaves to cherish his memories: Selida Brown of Atlanta, GA, Maureen Lattimore (Furress) Brookhaven, GA, Maurice George Brown (Cheyenne), and adopted son Stephone Brown (Lakeisha) both of Ridgeland, SC. Sarah Riley of Newark, NJ, George “Dickie” Brown (Khia) of Maryland, Lewis Brown of Springfield, MA. Three Brothers: Henry Brown of Erhardt, SC, Abraham Brown (Annie J) of Lena, SC Joseph Brown (Charlene) of Hinesville, GA. Four sisters: Elnora Devore, Martha Brown, and Mary Monroe all of Estill, SC. Pearlie Bowers (Bishop John) of Hampton, SC. One sister-in-law: Mary Ann Fields.
