Henry James Swinton was born on February 8, 1956, to Charles and Rena Mae Swinton. Henry was born and raised in Ridgeland, SC and he attended Ridgeland High School. In the 1970s, Henry relocated to New York, where he took on several professions and odd jobs, before returning to South Carolina permanently.
Henry attended LifeSpring Church in Bloomingdale, GA. Henry’s favorite pastimes included watching basketball and doing anything related to cars. He could be found under the hood of a race car on any given day. He enjoyed not only being a spectator at races but participating in races occasionally. In his later life, Henry enjoyed traveling and visiting the mountainous areas of North Carolina. He had a fascination with the views and the beauty it offered.
To his family, Henry was a natural comedian. His smile could brighten a room and his laughter could be heard from miles away. To know him was to love him. To be called a friend of his was an honor.
On the morning of Sunday, May 17, 2020, Henry took his last breath. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rena Mae Swinton; his daughter, Latavius Polite; his brothers, Johnny Swinton and Charles “BoBo” Swinton, Jr. Henry will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
