James Ferguson Obituary

James Ferguson, 73, of Beaufort, SC,(Burton) passed away Monday, January 4, 2021, at Memorial Health in Savannah, GA. He was the Husband of Sheila Ferguson. James Ferguson, a native of Beaufort S.C. was born December 17, 1947. He was a resident of Savannah, Georgia. He was the son of Late James Ferguson Sr. and Wilhelmina Ferguson. He attended Robert Smalls High School and graduated with the class of 1966. At an early age, he was baptized and became a member of Burton New Church of Christ in Beaufort, SC. In the year of 1991, he became a  longtime member of St. John Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia, and served faithfully as the Chief of the Usher Board.
In October of 1967, he joined the United States Marines and served faithfully and honorably. He retired from the United States Airforce as a Technical Sergeant, in September of 1991. Over the course of his years in the military, he received honorary awards and medals. In total, he honorably served 21 years in the military. Following his retirement from the military, he was employed as a Police Officer, for Savannah-Chatman Police Department. Also, James established his own business as an entrepreneur; Ferguson Heating and Air Conditioning.
He attended Johnston Technical College in Smithfield, N.C., receiving an Electrical Wiring Certificate. He attended Armstrong State College and received an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement. He also attended the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort S.C. and received an Associate’s Degree in Heating and Air Conditioning.
James was married to his devoted and loving wife, Sheila Lee Ferguson, for 16 Years, leaving her to cherish their wonderful memories.
James departed this life on January 4, 2021, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his Father; James Ferguson Sr. Brother; Rodger Ferguson of Detroit, Michigan.
He is survived by his loving wife: Shelia Lee Ferguson of Savannah, GA; one daughter: Tonya (Michael) Simmons; one grandson: Kamari Simmons of Raeford Lane, NC; two step daughters: Theresa Jantel Lee of Savannah, GA, Michelle (Victor) Gooden of Cadover, TN; two step sons: Antonio (Dorothy) Hull of Sellersburg, Indiana and Anthony Ferguson of Beaufort, SC; mother: Wilhelmina Ferguson of Burton, SC; one brother: Stanley Ferguson of Burton, SC; four sisters: Sarah (Thomas) Jordan of Callaway, MD, Carolyn (Zeb) Parker of Beaufort, SC, Paula Jean Ladson of Burton, SC, Vivian (Pastor Lawrence) Washington of Burton, SC; mother in law, Marie Lee of Ridgeland, SC; one brother in law, Perry (Wilette) Lee, Jr. of Ridgeland, SC; aunt, Rosa Mae Gibbs of Beaufort, SC; uncles: Pastor Tommy Lee (Louise) Brown of New York, William (Brenda) Brown of Beaufort, SC; along with a host of step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and caring friends.
