Jeremiah Lazarus Newton the son of the late Henry H. Newton and Mildred A. Smith was born June 29, 1952, in Ridgeland, SC. He departed this life suddenly on Saturday, December 5, 2020. As a youth, he was baptized and joined Mount Calvary Pentecostal Faith Church in Gillisonville, SC. He attended the public schools of Jasper County, SC graduating from Jasper High in 1970. He furthered his education at New York City Community College. In life, he held many position s of employment. He lived in California, New York, and Georgia but always returned to South Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Yvette Grey Newton of Port Royal, SC; his children, Derrick Newton, Sr. (Launiece) of Raleigh, NC, Ebony Latoya Jones (Cordre’) of Warrenton, NC and Faith Newton of Raleigh, NC; eight grandchildren, Jaleel, Essence, Destinae, Kelis, Rielee, Derrick, Jr., Jaisen and Neriah; three brothers, Charles Newton (Julia) of Jones, AL, Emil (Derrice) Chattanooga, TN, Chester (Linda) of Ridgeland, SC; three sisters, Ardell Greene of Ridgeland, SC, H. Anita Newton of Bluffton, SC and Miriam Newton of Swainsboro, GA; a paternal
uncle, Norris Newton of Philadelphia, PA; three paternal aunts, Elder Leila R. Smith of Ridgeland, SC, Rose Eady (Horace) of Ridgeland, SC, Evalena M. Newton of
Brooklyn, NY; a maternal uncle, Miles Seymore of Pennsylvania; three maternal aunts, Carolyn Hardy of Mt. Vernon, NY, Augusta Ann Smith of Ridgeland, SC and
a special friend Ms. Rose Mary Singleton of Ridgeland, SC. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, and friends.
