Kevin Brey, 60, of Hilton Head Island passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Coastal Carolina Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home of Ridgeland. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.
Kevin Scott Brey was born on June 4th 1961 to parents Wilbert and Virginia Brey in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Affectionately known as “Farmer Kev”, he grew up on the Family Farm where he not only assisted with its upkeep but also helped with neighboring farms in his community. Kevin attended Mischicot High School and graduated with the class of 1979. He later followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the military. The Marine Corps was his chosen branch. During his time there as a food service specialist, he partook in several certification opportunities and obtained medals for Good Conduct and Meritorious Mast.
Following his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Kevin’s passion for Food and Beverage Hospitality Management continued. His residence now being Hilton Head Island in Beaufort County, Kevin worked as a chef in a few restaurants, his longest and most recent was Seapines Country Club. His highest achievement was that of Sous Chef and enjoyed many events of laughter and creativity with his coworkers. His most popular dishes were She Crab Soup and Quiche. Besides his passion for different cuisines, he was a huge Green Bay Packers fan and embraced the sport whole heartedly.
Kevin met his current wife, Atoya, 17 years ago as she also moved to Hilton Head Island following her studies in Hospitality Management. Common interests were shared and their love for food blossomed and encouraged their love for each other. Kevin stated from the first time the two met “I am going to marry you one day”, and he certainly did. The couple produced a daughter, Kyana Monique Brey.
A man of honor, Kevin was the patriarch of a beautiful blended family. Kevin’s first marriage was to Lagrunda Mitchell with whom they shared one child, Daryth Desiree Brey and Four Step Children (Harlan Mitchell, Owintha Boan, Graci Mitchell, and Jazlyn Gadson). This union also produced precious and wonderful grandchildren.
In his recent years, Kevin developed an aggressive cancer called Mantle Cell Lymphoma. His family stood by his side as he fought his cancer into remission over a two year span. Kevin days ago suffered two sudden cardiac arrests and on September 1st 2021, succumbed to his injuries at the Coastal Carolina Hospital with his wife Atoya, and daughters, Desiree and Kyana at his bedside.
Kevin was loved by many. Left to cherish his wonderful memories is his mother: Virginia Brey, and Siblings: Wilbert Jr, Bernard, Sandra, Daniel, Jeffery, Randy, David, Brian, Cindy, Anthony, Andrew, Todd, Joel, and Heidi as well as a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
