Leola Barnwell

Leola Barnwell, 88, resident of Bluffton, SC, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at NHC Healthcare Bluffton. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home of Ridgeland. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.

Leola Gladys Barnwell was born December 5, 1933 on Spring Island, SC, Gussie Barnwell and Agnes Cannick Gadson. 
Leola received her formal education through the Chatham County, GA Public School System and graduated from Alfred Ely Beach High School. 
After High School, Leola moved to New York with her mother, where she lived most of her adult life. Leola was into Fashion and Fashion Sales. She worked for JCPenney’s in New York City for many years.  
In 1992 God called her mother (Agnes) home, and Leola moved back to Bluffton, SC to be close to family.
Leola had a great talent for art! Leola was able to sketch any avenue in New York City that came to mind. Leola was a very private, soft-spoken person who didn’t mind being alone, as long as she had her television and legal pad (to draw).  
On the morning of Wednesday, January 12, 2022 God, in His glorious and infinite wisdom called Leola to eternal rest. She gracefully and faithfully answered His call to be safe in His arms. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: George Cannick, Sr. and sister Venus Moore.
Her memories will continue to be cherished by her loving niece: Ashley Cannick of Bluffton, SC; nephews: Deveraux Cannick (Yolanda) of Mount Vernon, NY, George Cannick, Jr. (Louise) of Bluffton, SC, Anthony Cannick (Inett) of Ridgeland, SC and Eric Cannick (Sylvia) of Bluffton, SC; to include a host of grand-nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
