Lula Cohen-Walker, 65, Native of St. Helena Island passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Riverside Regional Medical Hospital in Newport News, VA. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home of Beaufort. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.

Lula Walker Cohen entered into eternal rest with her
Heavenly Father on September 7, 2021.
Born February 12, 1956 to Lubertha Walker Cuthbert and Lawrence Coaxum, Lula gave her life to Christ at an early age. After graduating from Beaufort High School in 1974, she promptly moved to New York in which she got married and started a family. 
Later on, she returned to SouthCarolina and became a baker and deli worker. A few years after the deaths of her mother and stepfather, John I. Cuthbert, she eventually settled in Newport News, Virginia where she retired and cultivated her life long purpose of being a loving mother and grandmother to her family.
Lula was known for her kind heart, creativity, and smile that could light up a building. She was an amazing artist, loved to cook, read, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. Family meant everything to her, and that affection was not limited to her blood relatives only.Whether you knew her as Lula, Hazel, Ms. Cohen or even the popular Ma Dukes; you never doubted that therewas room for you at her dinner table and in her heart. There was never such thing as a motherless child in her midst, and she spent her life displaying the Agape Love of God through her unrelenting, mother’s heart. She had the capacity to love unconditionally and willingly shared it with anyone who was blessed to be graced by her presence. Though she will be sorely missed, we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord; and now it is time for her to reap the abundance of love from her Father in Heaven that she so graciously sowed here on earth.
She is survived by her children: Tamara Davis(William),Byron Cohen, Jabari Cohen( Michelle); grandchildrenDavid, Michael, Jonathan, Takeira, ZeMirah, Joshua, Ariel,Noah, and Nichole; Aunts Rebecca Walker, AndreaWalker, and Jesse Mosley; and a host of sister in laws,
nephews, nieces, cousins, family, and close friends.
