Mrs. Mary Mack was born in Beaufort, SC on December 25, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Adeline McNeal and grew up on Stuart Point Road in Seabrook, SC.
Mary enjoyed her childhood and accepted Christ at an early age. Mary received her early education in the public schools and was told in 11th grade, with her fellow classmates, that they would have to attend one more year of school, thus making them the first graduating class of Robert Smalls to graduate in the 12th grade.
Upon graduating high school, Mary traveled to Lancaster, PA, completed a nursing program and worked at two nursing homes in Lancaster County. She met the love of her life of 62 years, Daniel Mack Sr. and with this union, Darene and Nathaniel were born. Mary was also a stepmother to Daniel’s seven beautiful children from a previous marriage.
Mary worked for the Hubley Manufacturing Company where she assembled toys and later became employed with Amp Incorporated as a machine operator. Daniel and Mary returned to Seabrook, SC after retirement in 1988.
Mary, who is affectionately known as Nan-Nan to many, was a steady and hard worker. She understood her role as a wife, mother, sister, auntie, Godmother, deaconess and friend. Nan-Nan loved to cook and bake and was known for her “Watergate cake, carrot cake and sweet potato pies. She also loved to garden, crochet, knit and occasionally you could see her chasing away stray dogs or running from caterpillars.
Nan-Nan, surrounded by her devoted family members in her home, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 8:01 p.m.
Those left to cherish her memories include her devoted husband, Daniel N.
