Mattie Jones, 98, of Ridgeland, SC, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022, at her residence. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.
Mother Mattie Jones was born November 23,1923 in Ridgeland, SC to the late Sarah & Glassgo Hugee. She was educated in the Jasper County schools. At an early age, she joined Second Euhaw Baptist Church (Grahamville), where attended faithfully until her health began to fail. Mother Mattie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Isaac Jones on July 4, 1940. She loved to spend her time outdoors gardening, caring for her lawn, walking daily and spending time with family. At home she also enjoyed singing her favorite hymn, “I want Jesus to walk with me.”
She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday August 17, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons: Isaiah Jones and Earl Jones; siblings: Annette Jenkins, Ernestine Christian, Mamie Lou Gardner, Wesley Hugee, Benjamin Hugee, Stella De Costa, Bessie Hugee, and Louis Hugee; two goddaughters: Authuree Smith and Lilly Rose Ford; two grandchildren Lawanda Jones and Keith Jones; two great grandchildren Gerald E. Jones ESQ and Marcol McNair.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters Jerilene McNair of Ridgeland, SC and Elizabeth Rivers of Staten Island, NY; one daughter in law: Mary Jones of Jersey City, NJ; She leaves to carry on her legacy nineteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, eighteen great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, friends, loved ones and three special friends Ms. Margaret Simmons, the late Ms. Catherine Hamilton and Ms. Geneva Anderson.
