Mother Alma Singleton Carr daughter of the late Frank and Virginia Singleton, was born Sunday March 9, 1941, in Burton, South Carolina. Mother was a strong, independent woman who believed in getting things done. She fought a good fight and held onto her faith as she was transitioning to her eternal home.
On Sunday, August 6,2023, at 1:05 am God dispatched his angels to her bedside and with a quiet sigh of relief, she departed this life.
Mother attended the Beaufort County Training School and later in life, she attended night school where she earned her High School Diploma. Mother loved her family, and always took time to go and see about a family member in need.
Mother at an early age accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized into
the body of believers and became a member of Second Jordan Baptist Church. She later moved to New York where she was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. While living in New York she was employed as a Keypunch operator before returning home.
Mother was a member of The Church of Christ Outreach Ministry where she operated in the Ministry of Help. She was the mother of The Church and The Senior Advisor.
Mother had a love for making crafts that could be seen around her home and sewing outfits for herself, her daughters, grandchildren, and others. She worked for Garland Mills and Levi Strauss Factories in Beaufort, SC and retired as a Seamstress with The Belk’s Department store. After retiring from Belk’s, she worked in the Church’s Child Development Center Ministry where she was the Kitchen Manager. She still had her love for crafts and sewing and opened Alma’s Alteration Shop where she was the Owner and Operator.
Mother loved traveling and cruising. She looked forward to our Saturday’s outings shopping and eating, but most of all she had a love for the Lord and could be found singing, shouting, thanking, and praising God even in her darkest hour.
Mother was preceded in death by her husband, Buford L Carr, four brothers, David Williams Jr, Nathaniel Singleton Sr, Casey Singleton, and Wilbur Singleton, three sisters, Pearl Milton, Ethel Polite, and Walterine Singleton.
Mother leaves to cherish fond memories of her, two daughters Evangelist Janet (Deacon Clyde) Sanders Sr., Beaufort, SC, Ronda (Pastor Robert) Washington, Lobeco, SC. Eleven grandchildren, Deacon Craig Sr. (Shanel) Washington, Bluffton, SC., Antonio (Verna) Sanders, Clyde Sanders Jr, David (Rhonda) Sanders, Tymeca (Roderick) Sawyer, Denise Washington all of Beaufort, SC., April (Jonathan) Brown, Jr, Lawrenceville, Ga, Micah (Melissa) Washington, Rockhill, SC., Saniaa Orr, Savannah, Ga, Tamika Jennings Blue, Atlanta, Ga and Raven Holmes, Raeford, North Carolina. Roosevelt Shuler, of Burton, SC Twenty-one great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Mother also leaves three sisters, Bernice Jenkins, St. Helena Island, SC, Sarah Doe, Vivian (Willie) Cooper Sr., Burton, SC. One brother, Frank Jr. (Nora) Singleton, Burton, SC. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Mother Alma "Ala" Singleton Carr, 82, of Burton, SC passed away at her home. Allen Funeral Home of Beaufort are in charge.
