Mr. Nathan Gibbs Sr "Robert", 70, of Seabrook, SC passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at MUSC Medical Center Charleston. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home of Ridgeland. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.
Mr. Nathan Gibbs, Sr. also known as Robert was born on April 26, 1951, in Seabrook,
South Carolina to Hester Tucker and Reverend Enoch Smalls. Mr. Gibbs received his early education in Beaufort County, before moving to Hartford, Connecticut where he graduated from Hartford Public High School. He was also successful as a wrestler for his school. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He later went on to take courses for engineering at the Greater Hartford Community College. He worked as a welder at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut building nuclear submarines, for many years. Mr. Gibbs was owner operator of NATEXPRESS Truck Service. In Atlanta, Georgia. After retiring in 2011, he moved his family to South Carolina. He was well known and well loved by many. He loved being around his family. He loved cooking, he loved to read and watch Fox News, in spite of what his buddy Glen would debate him on. Earlier, he was always seen with his Saint Charles Cavalier, June Bug. Nathan had strong faith. He knew and believed that God was his shepherd. He was baptized by the late Reverend James Morrison in 1992 in Hartford, Connecticut. God blessed him and his wife Patricia with 34 years of marriage from which a blended family of seven children are left to cherish his memory. On Sunday, August 29, 2021, God called him home from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sisters, Ardean Brown and Evelyn Hudson, his brother, Enoch Smalls, his uncle, Solomon Gibbs, and his beloved Aunt Eva Young.
Also, preceding him in death his best friend “June Bug”. Nathan Gibbs, Sr. also known as Robert leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife of 34 years, Patricia Gibbs; his blended family, his children, Nate Davis (Canada), Allison Watson of Stuart Point, SC, Darrell (Anissa) Garner, and Tania Graham both of Atlanta, GA, James Garner of Seabrook, SC and Marcus Gibbs of Seabrook, SC; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Earline Gibbs, Shirley Tucker, Annette Tucker, Anita Tucker, Dr. Carolyn Smalls, Mae Hayward and Brenda Wiltshire; three brothers, Ernest Badger, Leon Tucker, and Roger Tucker; beloved sister-in-law, Merry Miller; brother-in-law, Shearman Miller; beloved aunts, Mary Brown and Mary Gibbs; beloved uncles, Albert Gibbs, Larry Gibbs, and Frank Gibbs; beloved niece, Shonda Shakes; loving cousin, Ethel AKA ‘S; longtime friends, James Reed, Sr., Louie Robinson, and Glen McNair (Riding Partner); as well as a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
