Richard Jake Holmes was born October 6, 1954 in Bluffton, SC to the late Thomas Holmes and Ethel Chisolm Holmes.
Richard received his formal education at M.C. Riley Elementary and H.E. McCracken High School.
He was employed as a landscaper for most of his life and loved the work he did.
Mr. Richard was called to eternal rest on May 22, 2024. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Jonathan Holmes and Jerry Holmes and sisters Mary Holmes and Lucinda Bush.
Left to cherish his memories are wife Barbara Holmes of Charleston, SC; three daughters: Brenda (Jose) Garcia of Bluffton, SC; Latasha Holmes of Charleston, SC and Latrice (Arthur) Mitchell, of Savannah, GA; longtime partner: Elizabeth Scott of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren: Petty Officer Cameron Garcia, USN, Lilyonna Garcia, Jordan Mitchell all of Bluffton, SC, Shamaine Holmes and Kieyana Holmes, of Charleston, SC; four great grandchildren; sister: Joyce (Acie) Baker; brother: Thomas Holmes, Jr.; mother and father in law: Newton and Nancy Moultrie of Charleston, SC; sisters in law: Annette (Ron) Parker and Vern (Benjamin) Frasier both of Charleston, SC; nephews: George Bush, V and Gerald Bush of Bluffton, SC; nieces: Paula (Michael) Frazier of Charleston, Barbara (Cal) Brookins of Atlanta, GA, Chantel Polite of Charleston, SC, Michelle Polite of Hilton Head, SC, Michelle Mitchell of Beaufort, SC, and Shanekia Williams of Charleston, SC; special friends: Melvin Cleveland, David Anderson and Woody Kemp; with longtime partner, Richard has five bonus children, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also had a host of friends and family.
Richard Jake Holmes, 69, of Bluffton, SC passed away on May 22, 2024. Viewing will be on May 29th at First Zion Baptist Church (Bluffton) from 5-7pm. Funeral Service will be May 30th at 11am at First Zion Baptist Church, with Interment at Jackville Cemetery.
