Ruth McKnight, Of Saint Helena Island, passed away at The Pearl Of Port Royal in Port Royal, SC on November 2, 2020. Ruth McKnight was born July 21, 1926, in Charleston S.C to the late Rosa and Ezekiel Johnson. Ruth received her former education at Burke High School in Charleston, SC, after moving to the low country she completed her education at Battery Creek High School in Burton, SC. After graduation, she moved to New York and worked at Rockland Psychiatrist Center in New York as a Nursing Assistant until she retired.
Ruth was married to Ezekiel McKnight for over 46 years. The family moved from N.Y in 1978 to Saint Helena Island, SC, and she re-united her membership with the Orange Grove Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member of the senior choir and pastor’s aid until her health started to decline. She was also a member of the willing workers.
On Monday, November 2, 2020, at Pearl of Port Royal nursing facility, Ruth McKnight slipped into eternal peace at the age of 94, her husband Ezekiel McKnight preceded her in death on March 3, 2011. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, and was a friend to all that knew her. She leaves to cherish her memories, a Loving son, Robert Bright; a stepson, Ezekiel (Tammy) McKnight; two grandsons, David and Isaiah; like daughter’s, Jane Chisolm and Eddiemae Inabinett-White (Wayne); Niece’s, Carol Chisolm and Bertha (Albert); a devoted niece, Sheila Jefferson; Devoted nephew’s Clarence Chisolm (Marie) and Leon McKnight; Special cousins, Ethel White, Theresa Ross, Mary Williams, and Ernest McKnight; a god-daughter Latoy D. Fields; Special caregivers, Tiffany Frazier and Kimaleah Daise, a host of nieces, nephew, family, and many friends.
The viewing will be Friday, November 6, 2020, 5-7 pm at the Beaufort Chapel. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 7, 2020, at 1 pm, at Allen Funeral Home, Beaufort Chapel. Burial will take place on Monday, November 9, 2020, at 10 am, at the Beaufort National Cemetery. Funeral services are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home of Beaufort.
