Samuel Washington, 73, of Ridgeland passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, at his residence. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Funeral Home. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on our tribute wall.
Samuel Washington was born on November 3, 1948 to late Samuel Heyward and Elnora Washington-Heyward. At the age of five he was adopted by his Uncle Harold Washington and wife Jestine Chaney-Washington. He attended the Public Schools of Jasper County when he graduated in 1967. Upon graduation, he went to serve in United States Arm Forces (Navy).
After serving his country, he became employed by Civil Service as a Electrical Boiler Operator Parris Island, Beaufort SC for 46 years and worked until his retirement in 2018.
Samuel was joined in Holy Matrimony to Rose Mary Jackson for 51 years. This union was blessed with two children.
He loved his family, his job and the people he worked with at the plant, he loved to travel and he also had a passion for sports, especially baseball.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, adopted parents and three brothers.
He leaves to Cherish his memories, a loving and caring wife Rose Mary Jackson-Washington, a son Prentice R. Washington (Marvette) Beaufort SC, a daughter Latonya S. Washington Bluffton SC, five grandchildren, two great grands, three sisters Jannie Overton-Elizabeth City NC, Mae Bell Drake and Margie Drake Ridgeland, SC, two brothers Randy Drake- Charleston SC, David Drake-Ridgeland SC, three brothers-in-law Willie Jackson Jr, Ernest Jackson (Inez), Elijah Graham, Jr. Savannah GA, a special cousin Robert Wright- Ridgeland SC, an adopted daughter Aundrea Black, a special friend Medicus Deloach-Ridgeland SC, and a host of nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends.
