Ms. Vernelle Hazel, 77, formerly of Walterboro, SC, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020, in Springfield, GA. Public viewing will be Friday, August 21, 2020, from 6 pm -7 pm at Allen Funeral Home,(1905 Hampton St.) Walterboro, SC. Graveside Service is Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 10 AM at Burr Hill Cemetery, Cottageville SC. Allen Funeral Home of Walterboro, SC is in charge.
Vernelle Marie Smalls Hazel was born on June 28, 1943, in Round O, SC. She was the daughter of the late Dan Daniel Smalls and Alma Smalls of Canadys, SC.
Vernelle was educated in the schools of the Colleton County School District. A full-time Homemaker, she cared and nurtured for not only her children but many others. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Wilmon Hazel. She had a long-term companion of 52 years, Joseph Simmons, of Springfield, GA.
Vernelle departed this life on August 16, 2020, at Effingham Care Center in Springfield, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents and two beloved sons PaDarryl Hazel and Demetrick “Deek” Hazel.

Daughters Cheryl Hazel of Walterboro, SC and Kimberly Simmons of Guyton, GA; a son Anthony (Lillie) Hazel of Kingstree, SC; Step Daughter Betty Simmons of Santee, SC and Joseph Simmons of St. George, SC. Brother Johnny (Patricia) Smalls of Connecticut. 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
